Niral Patel

Director & Family Law Specialist

Since qualifying as a family solicitor in 2009, I have dedicated my career to supporting individuals and families through some of the most challenging moments in their lives. I joined Caveat Solicitors in 2012 and was appointed a Director the following year, reflecting my commitment to the firm and to delivering high‑quality, compassionate legal advice.

I hold specialist accreditations from Resolution in Domestic Abuse and Private Law Children, recognising my expertise in handling sensitive and complex family matters with care and professionalism. I am also a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel, enabling me to represent both adults and children in proceedings concerning the welfare and protection of children.

A significant focus of my practice is representing parents, children and other adult parties in cases where the Local Authority is involved. This includes applications for care orders, supervision orders, placement orders, emergency protection orders, adoption orders and special guardianship orders. I represent children, either directly or through their Court appointed Children’s Guardian, ensuring that their voices, rights and welfare remain central throughout the proceedings.

I have extensive experience in public law children matters, including cases involving non‑accidental injuries such as shaken baby syndrome, fractures, bruising, fictitious illness and other serious concerns. Many of these cases involve concurrent criminal proceedings, large sibling groups, families for whom English is not a first language, and situations where mental health or litigation capacity is in question.

Before entering the legal profession, I obtained a BSc in Biomedical Science from King’s College London, followed by my law conversion course. My scientific background has significantly enhanced my legal practice, particularly in cases involving complex medical evidence. I am able to analyse and interpret detailed medical material, understand medico‑legal terminology, and present this information clearly and accessibly to clients and the court. This ensures that all relevant possibilities are explored and put before the court at the earliest opportunity.

Although I am based in London, I am regularly instructed on cases outside the capital, including in Sheffield, Birmingham, Pontefract and Warrington. I have acted in matters before the County Court, High Court and Court of Appeal, and I am fully equipped to represent clients in all courts. Neither court location nor client location is a barrier to seeking legal advice from me, and I work with clients from a wide geographical and demographic range.

Beyond my legal expertise, I bring a personal commitment to this area of law that has shaped me professionally and personally. Working in such a demanding field has strengthened my ability to remain calm under pressure, think clearly in complex situations and approach every case with empathy and fairness. I have developed strong professional relationships with barristers, experts, guardians and other professionals whose involvement is essential to achieving the best outcomes for clients. These relationships help ensure that cases progress efficiently and that clients receive well‑rounded, informed representation.

I pride myself on my client‑focused approach. I listen carefully, remain non‑judgemental and take the time to understand each client’s circumstances, concerns and priorities. Many clients come to me during moments of crisis or uncertainty, and I aim to provide not only legal guidance but also reassurance, clarity and a sense of stability. My goal is always to empower clients with knowledge, support them through the process and advocate for them with strength and integrity.

I strive to provide clear guidance, robust representation and a steady, reassuring presence throughout the legal journey, helping clients navigate complex proceedings with clarity and confidence.
